Managing Your Team – Observations, Coaching and Performance Management

Observations & Coaching

After your session ends, we will ask you to submit a Staff Evaluation form for every member of your team.  The form simply asks you to give an overall star rating of the candidate, a rehire recommendation, a promotion recommendation, and to leave comments for future hiring managers. As such, it is important that you make time to observe every member of your team.  More importantly, observing staff makes them feel important, and gives you credibility to be able to offer feedback and coaching!

Spend time getting to know your team, and offer positive feedback whenever possible.  Building honest rapport with employees makes it easier to both give and receive feedback when performance needs to be improved.

Performance Management

Unfortunately, from time to time there are issues that arise that require us to go down the more formal path of employee performance management.   More information about specific problem behaviors can be found in the Employee Handbook and Performance Management forms are available in the Forms section.

When performance management begins with a staff member, you are required to document each step of the management process.  Contact the Home Office whenever you begin to manage performance, and see the Incidents and Behavior section of the Camp Management Binder for documentation forms and logs.
