Each session will be provided enough walkie talkies for the Site Administrator to be in communication with an Adventure Guide from each grade level. In the absence of a PA or bell system, walkie talkies are the best way to communicate with your team. Since radios (walkie-talkies) may be unfamiliar for your team, please spend a bit of time reviewing the rules of radio etiquette with your team. Please make sure that radios are plugged in and charging at the end of each day.
Golden Rules of Radio Communication
-
Clarity: When using a two-way radio, you cannot speak and listen at the same time. Speak slowly with a clear voice.
-
Brevity: Be precise and to the point.
-
Security: Do not transmit confidential information on a radio. Remember, frequencies are shared, you do not have exclusive use of the frequency.
-
Test: Perform radio checks to ensure your radio is in good working condition.
-
Ensure the battery is charged and the power is on.
-
Keep the volume high enough to be able to hear calls.
-
Regularly make radio checks to make sure everything is working and that you are still in range.
